It was announced on Saturday afternoon that after nearly seven months of ambiguity, the Jets have finally traded safety Jamal Adams. The Jets sent Adams and a 2022 4th round pick to the Seahawks in exchange for safety Bradley McDougald, 1st round picks in 2021 and 2022, and a 3rd round pick in 2021.
This comes just one month after Adams officially requested a trade and stated that he wanted out of New York. Jamal has been involved in loads of drama throughout the 2019 season, starting in Week 2 when head coach Adam Gase benched him near the end of the game.
Adams showed clear discomfort with the organization on Twitter and Instagram, and removed all connections with the team on social media. Weeks later after the Jets had lost their 4th straight game, Jamal stated:
"I mean, any time I step on the field, man, I expect to win. We all do. But it didn't happen. We lost. It doesn't matter. So I'm frustrated. I'm upset. It is what it is."
Those events led up to many NFL fans thinking that he would be traded prior to the mid season trade deadline, but that didn’t happen. Adams remained with the Jets organization throughout the 2019 season and the team finished with a 7-9 record.
In my opinion, the Seahawks completely overpaid for Jamal Adams and gave up way too many draft picks. I don’t care how good he is, 3 early round picks for one player - especially a safety - is far too much.
Of course, if you look at Seattle’s history with first round picks, they haven't been overly effective at using those picks on good players and have found most of their key players in later rounds of the draft. However, as it currently stands, I would have to say that the Jets won this trade for the time being, although only time will tell if I will be proven wrong.
