Greetings. This is usually where I'd make a joke about the average number of readers this site has. Fortunately I won't as that bit has already gotten old just a month into this process. What I will say is that Basketball Beeswax will feature basketball content exclusively and all additional content will be moved to a new website. As of right now, this site should be staffed by six young writers, all of whom understand football to a level that I'll never reach. The most prolific of those six is @superlatenflnews himself, Alex Blaine. Enjoy Alex's latest piece on breakout NFL players and stay tuned for more updates regarding the new site. - Simon Pruitt, Editor in Chief? Yeah, Editor in Chief.
1).
Drew Lock - QB - Denver
Although we didn’t get to watch Drew Lock until around December, he still started in five games last year, going 4-1 in that stretch. He also achieved a passer rating of 89.7 in those games. With it already being announced that Lock will start in 2020, Lock already knows his job is secure and is already preparing as QB1. It also helps that the Broncos significantly upgraded their WR core in drafting Jerry Jeudy with their first round pick. With that being said, I think Drew Lock is the most likely player to have a breakout year in 2020.
2).
Kyler Murray - QB - Arizona
We saw some excellent flashes in 2019 when Kyler Murray started all 16 games for the Cardinals. He finished with 20 tds along with 2 game winning drives proving that he can lead his team. The Cardinals also had a great offseason with the two biggest acquisitions being DeAndre Hopkins and Isaiah Simmons. Hopkins is a big reason why Kyler Murray is on this list. With arguably one of the best receivers in the game being added to Murray’s arsenal, I think Kyler is primed for a breakout year.
3).
Darnell Savage - S - Green Bay
Savage is one of the more underrated safeties in the league who already had a pretty good year last year as a rookie, but I feel like he will take the league by storm next year. Last season in 14 games he had 55 tackles, 2 interceptions, and 2 forced fumbles. Coming off a rookie year, a full offseason with the Packer’s defensive playbook may dramatically increase Savage’s production. It also helps that he has a star studded defense around him with the likes of Preston and Za'darius Smith as well as Jaime Alexander.
4).
Derrius Guice - RB - Washington
When you take a look at Derrius Guice’s injury report over his short career span, you may notice that he has had some of the worst luck you’ve ever seen. In college, Guice was one of the most dominant running backs in the nation playing for LSU. When the Redskins drafted him in the second round in 2018, fans had high hopes for him, and those hopes still remain. With luck on his side, I can see Guice having a spectacular season behind the Redskins offensive line.
5).
O.J. Howard - TE - Tampa Bay
O.J. Howard has not lived up to the high expectations so far after having an up and down rookie season in 2017. But last year was arguably his worst season accumulating only 459 years and a single touchdown. As we all know, the Buccaneers got themselves a new quarterback in Tom Brady, which is a dream for most receivers and tight ends in the NFL. With the addition of Brady, it may help Howard find his groove and lead to him having a breakout year. Only time will tell.
