Every year there are a handful of teams that come out of nowhere and surprise football fans everywhere after having a disappointing year in the previous season. Here are 4 teams that could have bounce back seasons in 2020.
As most people know, the Rams were the team to represent the NFC in the Super Bowl in the 2018 season. With that being said, going into the 2019 season, most people expected them to repeat, or at least make a deep playoff run. What we saw instead was rather disappointing. The Rams finished 9-7 all the way in 3rd place in the NFC West. However, I feel that the Rams could have a bounce back year in 2020. The most noticeable thing to happen to the Rams this offseason was likely the departure of RB Todd Gurley. Their replacement for him was Florida State RB Cam Akers who they drafted 52nd in this year's draft. Only time will tell if he is a suitable replacement for Gurley. However, what we saw from the Rams in 2018 was an explosive team who could score on any given play. If the Rams can return to that form, they have a great chance at making a return to the playoffs.
Most who watch football know that when you watch the Bears play, you expect the defense to absolutely carry the team. You don’t even have to watch them play, you can just tell from the way they’ve built their roster. Defense wins championships, however, you also need a somewhat reliable offense which is something that the Bears lack. After the 2018 season, Bears fans knew that Mitchell Trubisky wasn’t the answer. That sentiment was all but confirmed after Trubisky took a huge step back last season. With the signing of Nick Foles, the team may have to rely on the veteran QB to lead them back into the playoffs after a disappointing season.
The Chargers were a team that went from going 12-4 in 2018 to completely collapsing in 2019 with a 5-11 record. This year is Tyrod Taylor’s chance to prove that he can move the football, and most importantly show that he can protect it. Not turning the ball over will be a huge part in how the Chargers season plays out and I think Taylor is certainly capable of proving himself. He is also one of the more underrated athletes in the league and I think a lot of people will be shocked by the plays that he can make. Other important moves that the Chargers made had to do with implementing more resources towards the offensive line that will help protect Taylor even more. If the Chargers defense can continue to play lights out, the Chargers can absolutely have a bounce back year and we may see them in the playoffs once again.
Ever since last August, the QB position for the Colts has changed dramatically. With the retirement of Andrew Luck, Jacoby Brissett was forced to lead the team which ultimately lead to a disappointing 7-9 season. This year, all eyes are on newly signed QB Philip Rivers. The Colts season largely depends on the play of Rivers. Rivers has a nice set of weapons to work with in TY Hilton and Michael Pittman Jr. At his best, we’ve seen that Philip Rivers can lead a team to the postseason. Only time will tell if he can do it again.
